Pop Art Takes Over Paris

Fondation Louis Vuitton’s latest exhibition brings Pop Art into the 21st century. “Pop Forever, Tom Wesselmann &…” offers a fresh look at this revolutionary movement, from its early days through to its contemporary influence.

At the heart of the show is American artist Tom Wesselmann, whose bold work defined an era. The exhibition pairs 150 of his pieces with works by 35 artists spanning generations – from Pop Art pioneers Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein to contemporary voices like Ai Weiwei.

“This isn’t just about looking back,” curators Dieter Buchhart and Anna Karina Hofbauer explain. “Pop Art’s influence never really ended – it just keeps evolving.” Their vision spreads across all four floors, where Wesselmann’s iconic works chart the movement’s journey from the 1950s through today.

Visitors can follow this evolution through Wesselmann’s distinctive style – from his early collages to his famous “Great American Nudes” and still lifes. These pieces are thoughtfully arranged alongside his contemporaries, showing how Pop Art’s fascination with consumer culture and mass media remains relevant in today’s global marketplace.

Created with the Wesselmann Estate, this landmark exhibition celebrates both the artist’s legacy and Fondation Louis Vuitton’s tenth anniversary. Through February 24, 2025.
