Trigema’s signature is clearly visible in iconic projects such as Fragment in Karlín, which embodies a symbiosis of architecture, art, and residential living. It’s no coincidence that this imposing structure, which the developer itself describes as a new concept in rental housing, has garnered numerous international awards. Created under the guidance of the prestigious Qarta studio and artist David Černý, their collaboration has resulted in a new architectural landmark where functional design marries unique visual concepts.
When Marcel Soural founded Trigema with two partners in 1994, their initial plan to develop a supermarket in Liberec seemed promising. Everything was in place: the project, machinery, workers… But fate had other plans. Just two days before the scheduled start and contract signing, their business aspirations took an unexpected turn. Another company secured the contract, leaving the founders distributing flyers in Prague’s Břevnov district, offering fence repairs. They completed about three such jobs, but didn’t give up on construction. “My journey has taken me through roles as a cost estimator, project preparer, site manager, production head, and construction firm chief to development. Now, I find myself in a position where I devise strategy and bring my visions to life,” Marcel Soural recalls.
Soural’s ambition to redefine urban living is exemplified by the Lihovar project in Smíchov. This development transforms an abandoned industrial complex on the Vltava’s banks into a vibrant new residential quarter. Distinctive factory chimneys and brick facades create a unique atmosphere, blending industrial heritage with cutting-edge technologies and contemporary urban concepts of community living. Lihovar is an organically interconnected whole that combines living spaces with cultural and culinary experiences.
Equally intriguing is the Paprsek project, which Trigema is currently constructing in Stodůlky. Set to be completed this year, the developer promises it will bring the atmosphere of New York’s Manhattan to Prague. Paprsek will be a combination of residential spaces with a commercial ground floor, creating a lively urban oasis where modern architecture blends with greenery and relaxation areas.
“Our vision is to bring together quality architecture and modern art with everyday life,” explains Marcel Soural. “We strive to create original, functional buildings that leave a legacy for future generations and perhaps even stir a bit of controversy.” Trigema is set to realize this vision with the upcoming Top Tower, aptly named ‘wreck-scraper’ — a high residential tower where David Černý will ‘lean’ a shipwreck-shaped sculpture against its façade.
Today, Trigema’s reach extends far beyond development. Their portfolio includes investments in innovative startups like Flat Zone, ski resorts Monínec and Rokytnice, and the recently opened winery Dog in Docks in Veselí nad Moravou. Regardless of the venture, Trigema approaches each project with the boldness to challenge the status quo and create truly inspiring works. With over 1,600 apartments sold and numerous awards under its belt, Trigema proves that development can transcend the boundaries of mere business. It can transform into an art of creating environments that serve, inspire, and connect.
