Docked Among Wines

Along the Baťa Canal in Veselí nad Moravou, a new project is redefining wine tourism in the region. However, Trigema’s latest venture is far more than just another pin on the map.

Imagine a place where the gentle lapping of canal water blends with the clinking of glasses filled with local wine. Where the aroma of freshly baked bread from the bistro entices you to sample regional specialties. And where, after a day spent exploring the beauty of the surrounding countryside, you can unwind in a luxurious apartment overlooking an ancient castle park. Dog in Dock is precisely such a haven.

With this venture, Czech developer Trigema, known for bold projects in residential and commercial development, enters the world of winemaking and hospitality. Dog in Dock thus benefits from the experience and resources of an established company while maintaining a fresh and innovative approach.

Wine With Character

At the heart of the project is a young winery born from pure enthusiasm for quality wine and the desire to share it with those who appreciate it. The vineyards sprawling across the foothills of the White Carpathians give rise to wines with distinctive character. The enologists at Dog in Dock experiment with traditional and modern techniques to create a portfolio ranging from classic Moravian varieties to bold sparkling wines.

“We enjoy unconventional production methods, playing with flavor harmonies and treating each grape as gently as possible,” they say of their philosophy. This passion for innovation is reflected in their latest product — the crisp frizzante Bubbles & Barks. This light sparkling wine is sold in cans featuring cheerful illustrations by British artist Ashley Percival, whose portfolio includes collaborations with brands such as Gucci, Patagonia, and Urban Outfitters. Percival’s unique style isn’t limited to Bubbles & Barks, though; his illustrations decorate the labels of the entire Classic range too, lending wines a distinctive visual identity.

Similarly, the gastronomy at Dog in Dock reflects the riches of the region. The chefs work exclusively with seasonal ingredients from local suppliers, creating a menu that changes with nature’s rhythm. A unique feature of the bistro is the self-service wine dispensers offering 28 different wines, allowing guests to discover new tastes and vintages. It’s like having a sommelier at your fingertips, but with the freedom to experiment at your own pace.

A Blend of Old and New

Thanks to Dog in Dock, Veselí nad Moravou now boasts thirty-six elegant apartments, each reflecting Trigema’s knack for refined design. The sophisticated rooms feature well-appointed kitchenettes and offer captivating views — choose between the historic castle park or the tranquil Baťa Canal. For those in pursuit of tranquility, a private wellness area awaits, complete with two sauna types and an inviting outdoor whirlpool.

But there’s more to this place than just creature comforts. Visitors are greeted by an intriguing four-meter sculpture — a trio of steel dogs that, through clever illusion, reveals only two from any viewpoint. And this artistic touch runs through the entire project, from the wine labels to the architecture. For instance, plans are underway to transform the historic orangery into a cultural center, seamlessly blending the region’s rich heritage with contemporary wine culture.

And the excitement doesn’t stop there. There’s talk of a boat lift to connect the Baťa Canal with the Morava River. Winery director Tomáš Zbořil envisions this as a unique attraction, one that could draw admiration from far beyond the region’s borders.
