Elegance in Motion

Ferragamo unveils the intimate world of ballet through a captivating new exhibition at Milan’s Teatro alla Scala.

The Italian luxury house Ferragamo has been intertwined with dance since the 1920s. Now, it celebrates this artistic connection as the official partner of “The Hidden Gaze: Dance Behind the Curtain,” an extraordinary exhibition on display at Milan’s Teatro alla Scala Museum through September 14, 2025.

This remarkable showcase invites visitors behind the scenes of La Scala’s prestigious ballet company through Gérard Uféras’s evocative photography. His images capture dancers’ most private moments—from rigorous rehearsals to the charged anticipation before curtain call—revealing the discipline, dedication and poetic grace behind every performance.

A Legacy of Movement

Ferragamo’s dance heritage runs deep. Founder Salvatore Ferragamo crafted shoes for legendary dancers including Anna Pavlova, Alicia Markova, and Katherine Dunham. Perhaps his most iconic creation, the ballet flat designed for Audrey Hepburn in 1954, embodied effortless elegance and remains a bestseller today.

Creative Director Maximilian Davis honors this tradition in his Spring/Summer 2025 collection, drawing inspiration from ballet’s fluid lines and soft palette that echo the subtle lighting of theater wings.

Accompanying the exhibition, a 160-page photography book will be released, documenting daily life within Milan’s ballet company. The volume alternates between intimate black-and-white backstage imagery and vibrant performance shots, portraying dance as a profoundly human pursuit defined by sacrifice, passion, and the endless quest for perfection.
