Forever Is Now

Ancient meets avant-garde as the Pyramids of Giza transform into the world’s most spectacular contemporary art gallery. Now in its fourth year, Forever Is Now brings twelve international artists to this UNESCO World Heritage site, where their installations create a stunning dialogue between past and present through November 16.

“We’re using art as a lens for discovery,” says exhibition founder and curator Nadine Abdel Ghaffar. “In the same way archaeologists peel back layers of history, our artists are uncovering fresh perspectives on the past through contemporary creation.”

This year marks a significant milestone as the exhibition welcomes Asian artists for the first time. South Korean artist Ik-Joong Kang’s Four Temples stands out among the newcomers. His striking installation features sixteen walls inscribed with Korean, English, Arabic, and hieroglyphic texts – a powerful statement about finding unity in our divided world.

Human Creativity Enhanced by AI

Innovation takes center stage as the exhibition embraces artificial intelligence. Egyptian-American designer Hassan Ragab partners with Meta to push the boundaries of creative expression, while Saudi artist Daniah Al Saleh uses machine learning to reimagine Egyptian cinema’s golden age.

Italian artist Federica Di Carlo’s I See, I See plays with perception, using clever optical effects to frame the pyramid’s peak in an entirely new way. Meanwhile, Jean-Marie Appriou’s Vessel of Time – an ochre clay boat carrying a child figure – offers a poetic meditation on temporal passage.

The exhibition gets interactive with STUDIO INI’s contribution. Led by Nassia Inglessis, their shape-shifting sculpture responds to visitor movements, bridging human experience with the pyramids’ ancient grandeur. “We’re moving beyond passive viewing,” Ghaffar explains. “When visitors engage physically with the art, they create their own unique connection with this historic space.”

Organized under the patronage of UNESCO and several Egyptian ministries, the exhibition extends beyond the Giza plateau. Additional shows are running in three historic Cairo venues, alongside Tale of Two Cities – an exhibition exploring the rich cultural ties between Alexandria and Athens.
