Gucci’s Hollywood Night Out

Sabato De Sarno, Gucci’s creative director, unveiled his second evening collection, Gucci Notte, during the prestigious LACMA Art+Film Gala in Los Angeles. The event, which annually bridges the worlds of art and film, served as the perfect backdrop for De Sarno to reinforce the Italian fashion house’s longstanding connection with Hollywood and the film industry.

This year’s thirteenth edition of the significant event, honoring director Baz Luhrmann and artist Simone Leigh, transformed into an exclusive fashion showcase. The traditional red carpet, this time in pistachio green, became a runway for twelve women’s and four men’s looks.

“Each of my collections encapsulates a part of my vision, and Gucci Notte is no exception. It’s a tribute to the architecture of the garment and the quest for beauty that celebrates Gucci’s craftsmanship at its finest,” De Sarno stated. “These looks pay homage to the timeless allure of Hollywood — ornate, rich in intricate details, and crafted with the mastery that defines Gucci, embodying an elegance that transcends moments.”

From the Silver Screen to the Runway

In creating the collection, De Sarno drew inspiration from icons of Hollywood’s golden age. “When I think of old Hollywood, there are some names that remind me of this spirit,” he revealed during fittings with models Vittoria Ceretti, Mona Tougaard, and Angelina Kendall. “Rita Hayworth in ‘Gilda’, her sensuality is always in my mind. Or, of course, the incredible costumes of Joan Crawford. And there’s another actress I really love: Lauren Bacall. I’m very fascinated with these women.”

The women’s evening gowns feature architectural, tailored cuts, beaded embroidery, sheer lace insets, and feather trim, while the men’s tuxedos showcase assertive shoulders and oversized lapels with a relaxed slouch. The jewelry and enamel minaudières continue De Sarno’s revival of the house’s iconic bamboo motif.

The entire collection reflects De Sarno’s direction in steering Gucci toward more wearable fashion, which he calls “casual grandeur.” “I love to see people wear Gucci, and not Gucci wear them,” says the designer. The star-studded event welcomed luminaries including Kim Kardashian, Troye Sivan, Andrew Garfield, Chloë Sevigny, and Anna Wintour, with Charli XCX providing the evening’s entertainment. Proceeds from the event will support LACMA’s film programs and expansion project.
