Lucie, as one of the leading Czech and international figures in the field of product and furniture design, brings a breath of fresh air with her assertive approach, respecting material as the primary source of inspiration and design as an interpretation of appreciation for the created form.
In recent collections, the Port of Stars brand has begun to take a more active approach to the collaboration process, bridging the imaginary gap between design and fashion. In response to dissatisfaction with standardized ideas about how a fashion brand should be presented, Port of Stars brings a radical and unique approach to sizes, zero waste strategy, and a sustainable creative process that challenges norms. Thanks to this philosophy, design stands out and materials come to the forefront.
Given that the creative philosophies of both Lucie Koldová and the Port of Stars brand are inseparably linked with emotional expression through stories, the joint journey of these two icons began with mutual admiration and respect for each other’s work. The goal of Port of Stars was to combine Lucie’s pure, minimalist, and sensual design into an original piece reflecting light, transparency, and form.
The creative process was a collaborative work drawing inspiration from the designer’s fascination with materials, which in her creations are mostly glass or wood, transferred to natural fabrics such as silk, organza, and treated cotton. Given Lucie’s strong design background and Port of Stars’ dreamy, flowing forms, it was a real challenge to create a piece that would meet the expectations of both parties.
Based on many conversations, studying archives, and creating designs, a joint idea was born to transition from dresses to a jumpsuit. Lucie has always admired how this piece of clothing is a design expression in itself. Because of this, many creators also choose it to present their style.
The main designers Radka Kubková and Jana Kapounová focused on fabrics that would balance the structural design of the piece while softening its form to maintain the brand’s character.
The jumpsuit has a minimalist design with an accentuated shoulder area, an open back, and delicate slits made of translucent silk material. The design combines strength and fragility in a perfectly gentle silhouette. While the jumpsuit is an absolute novelty for the Port of Stars brand, the short cocktail jacket accompanying this piece is directly inspired by one of the brand’s most popular designs, the Stella dress. The pattern was adjusted to reflect the shoulder structure, and the model is made of shape-holding silk organza with fine, almost invisible stitching. It resembles a glass light that reveals its pure beauty with a single movement and illumination.
To celebrate the collaboration, the design will be officially unveiled at Designblok. You can also look forward to more accessible interpretations of this unique piece, which will be made to order.
