When Light Becomes Jewelry

Sometimes the boldest statements come in the simplest forms. For almost 25 years, Chopard’s Ice Cube collection has been proving that minimalism can outshine even the most elaborate jewelry designs.

While the collection’s repeating cubic pattern might appear understated at first glance, there’s nothing simple about its execution. Each edge is precisely faceted to create an intricate dance of light, giving these pieces their distinctive allure. This vision comes from Caroline Scheufele, Chopard’s Co-President and Artistic Director, who first introduced this pure, geometric aesthetic in a 1999 watch design. Since then, Ice Cube has defined modern minimalist luxury.

The collection’s apparent simplicity masks years of innovation and meticulous craftsmanship. Each piece marries cutting-edge technology with traditional jewelry-making expertise – with final touches and diamond setting still performed by hand. In 2017, Chopard took another step forward by committing to use only ethical gold for Ice Cube, proving that modern luxury can be both beautiful and responsible.

Drawing inspiration from the Bauhaus movement’s “less is more” philosophy, the collection’s vertical lines mirror urban architecture, where skyscraper windows sparkle like diamonds against the night sky.

This architectural connection comes to life in the new “Sculpted by Light” campaign, where British photographer Charlotte Wales captures Bella Hadid in an abstract cityscape. As night lights reflect infinitely across glass facades, the campaign creates a stunning tribute to minimalism, where light itself becomes another element in Chopard’s masterful jewelry-making.
